About us

Tweeddale Youth Action is the lead organisation for youth work provision throughout Tweeddale.

From our youth club base in the Old Corn Exchange at the top of School Brae in Peebles we offer young people a safe alternative to street corners for our two weekly evening drop-ins on Wednesdays from 6 until 8 and Fridays from 7 until 10.

At these drop-in sessions young people from 12 upwards can get involved with structured activities and games, enjoy our table tennis, table football and pool tables or simply hang out with friends. We have computers, an x-box, cooking facilities and a full recording studio, all run by paid staff and dedicated, trained volunteers.

We  also offer youth work provision in innerleithen from our youth club in 24 Chapel Street and run a weekly drop-in on a Tuesday evening from 6 pm. until 8 pm fro S2 and above and Thursday evenings from 6 pm. until 8 pm. for P7/S1's.  Our vision is to offer the young people of Innerleithen and surrounding area, the same opportunities we offer our members in Peebles.

We work with young people in a variety of ways including

1:1 mentoring and support,

Providing volunteering opportunities, both within our organisation and through our partner organisations,

Sports and fitness, including regular football, dance and fitness as well as one off trips to places such as the EICA, ice skating, skate parks, football matches etc.

Film projects

Cookery projects

Day trips and residential visits

Employability skills including CV writing

Signposting and supporting access to services such as literacy and numeracy and mental health services

Our youth forum (Youth Choices) which decides on our activities, fund raising strategies and recruitment of staff and volunteers.

Since our project began in 1999 we have had a huge impact on young people’s lives and have helped hundreds of young people through their transition from childhood to adulthood. We feel passionately about supporting young people on their journey and this is why everything we do, and every opportunity we offer is free, to ensure opportunity for all, regardless of ability to pay.

As a voluntary organisation, we rely on raising money through grant schemes as well as our own fund raising initiatives and charitable donations. If you would like to contribute to the work we do, please drop us a line at info@tweedyouth.co.uk
