Tweeddale Youth Action is recruiting for a part time youth worker

Tweeddale Youth Action is the lead organisation for youth-work provision in Tweeddale. We offer 10-25 year olds in Peebles, Innerleithen and surrounding area, a safe alternative to hanging around the bus stops and street corners. Through youth clubs in Peebles and Innerleithen we aim to provide relevant and meaningful activities in a fun and secure environment. Job Description Post title: Youth Worker Location: Peebles and Innerleithen Hours: 25 hours per week, including evening and occasional weekend work Rate of pay: £10.50 per hour (f.t.e. £19,110 based on a 35 hour working week) General role: As a Tweeddale Youth Action Youth Worker you will engage and build positive relationships with children and young people attending our drop in sessions. Through games and activities you will make sure that young people feel included and, where appropriate help to facilitate their socialising and making friends. You will lead on learning through theme based group work appropriate to the ages of participants. Topics will include bullying, relationships, drugs and alcohol, smoking, sexual and mental health among other issues that impact on young people’s health and well-being. With support from Tweeddale Youth Action’s Senior Youth Worker and Manager you will share responsibility for the planning, delivery and evaluation of TYA’s drop-ins. Person specification You will have experience of working with children and young people in an informal setting and a thorough understanding of the policies and principles that inform youth work including Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) and SHANARRI indicators. You will also have: • Good communication and inter-personal skills • Experience of working as a member of a team • The ability to engage and form positive and productive relationships with young people whose behaviour may be challenging and chaotic. • The ability to motivate individuals and groups and inspire their confidence and trust • A tactful and diplomatic approach to dealing with sensitive and confidential information • Enthusiasm, commitment and stamina • A flexible approach to working • A sense of humour • A full driving license and access to a car • An up to date knowledge of and interest in issues that affect young people This role is subject to PVG disclosure and will entail evening and some weekend work. All training, including essentials such as Child Protection and C-Card will be provided and this role will give candidates considerable opportunities for development and growth within the youth work sector.
