We are looking for someone with experience in youth work to join our dynamic team.
Due to the nature of this role, it is very important that you have previously worked in a youth work setting. We are looking for someone who can join our team and hit the ground running.
For the right candidate, this will be an exciting role working with young people in Tweeddale. You will bring ideas and energy to the work of empowering and supporting young people aged 10-25, using a harm reduction approach to educate on issues including drugs, alcohol, relationships and mental health.
While this is not a role with set hours or salary, we offer a competitive salary based on experience. We want to hear what your availability and capacity first in order to create a role that suits both you and us. There will be evening work at our drop-in sessions, as well as weekend hours when needed. So please tell us about your background and youth work experience and we’ll take it from there.

Sessional youth workers!
Do you want to help make safe, fun spaces for young people?

Salary: £12-13 per hour, depending on experience.
You would be supporting our weekly evening youth club drop-in sessions in Innerleithen, and sometimes Peebles.

Job description
As a Tweeddale Youth Action Youth Worker you will plan, deliver and evaluate meaningful activities and group work that respond to young people’s needs.
You will help to inform age-appropriate inputs that positively influence young people’s health and well-being.
You will build positive relationships with young people and help to maintain a boundaried safe space for young people to access on their terms.
Person specification
Ideally, you will have experience of working with children and young people in a youth work setting and a thorough understanding of the policies and principles that inform youth work.
You will also have:
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
Ability to motivate and inspire young people
Capability to plan youth work sessions planning with a thorough understanding of desired outcomes.
A tactful and diplomatic approach to dealing with sensitive and confidential information
Enthusiasm, commitment, and stamina
A flexible approach to working
A sense of humour
A full driving license and access to a car
An up-to-date knowledge of and interest in issues that affect young people
The role of youth worker is subject to PVG disclosure and will entail evening and occasional weekend work.
We’d love you to have previous experience in a similar role but all training, including essentials such as Child Protection and C:Card, will be provided.
